20 Best Women’s Hiking Sandals

The Best Women’s Hiking Sandals – The Only Guide You Need!

Women’s hiking sandals have seen a massive resurgence in popularity over the past decade. The reason is simple: women love hiking sandals because they are light, durable, convenient, and extremely comfortable. Another important feature is that they allow for more breathability than hiking boots in summer and dry faster than closed shoes in water. Therefore, they’re the ideal summer option for all types of activities from adventurous travel, fitness weekends away to romantic sunset strolls on the beach. Their look has also improved from clunky footwear to trendy and fashionable accessories.

Another thing active women particularly like is that hiking sandals are very versatile and can be worn in both urban and natural environments. This makes them particularly useful for women who want comfortable stylish footwear that they can wear virtually everywhere.

There are several types of women’s hiking sandals available on the market; from stylish lightweight sandals to rugged hiking sandals designed for trekking long distances. This gives you plenty of options when shopping for a pair of hiking sandals.

Our Methodology for Choosing the Best Hiking Sandals

This guide will review the universe of hiking sandals and narrow your choice down to the best-of-the-best. To come up with it, we’ve used a standard methodology, which entailed giving each pair of outdoor sandals an accurate rating, based upon 5 difference criteria:

Comfort
How well the sandals fit and feel. Do they have good arch support and padding?

Traction
How much traction to the athletic sandals provide. Does the sole give you traction in different kinds of environments?

Adjustability
Can the sandal adjust to accommodate feet of different shapes and sizes?

Versatility
Whether the sandal can be worn in many different locations and environments

Aesthetics
How stylish/attractive the sandals are

From these 5 factors, we obtained an overall score out of 100 for each pair of hiking sandals. We also associated each hiking sandal to a category, to help you understand how they are intended to be used. Categories include the most comfortable walking shoes, the best walking shoes for travel, the most stylish walking shoes and so on.

So, without further ado, let’s check out which hiking sandals reached the top of our list!

Teva Verra Sandal — Women's Hiking Sandal

This is a thinner version of the popular Teva Tirra sandal. Its low profile makes these sandals a fantastic choice for travel, as they will take up limited space in your backpack or suitcase. This way, they’ll provide you with a second footwear option for a day of exploring amazing sites or simply to go to the beach.

The Teva Verra sandal is made from mostly synthetic materials including a polyester/nylon upper and nylon shank which provides additional stability on uneven ground. The rubber outsole provides surprisingly good traction for low profile sandals, which will be useful on surfaces like wet cement and tiles.

The contoured EVA footbed is comfortable, but the shallower midsole makes these sandals less comfortable than the Teva Tirra. One big advantage of wearing these sandals is how easily they can be put on or taken off, thanks to the Velcro hook and loop enclosure system. These sandals have been treated with Microban, a zinc-based antimicrobial technology.

Pros:

Extremely lightweight

Comfortable

Quick to put on or take off

Cons:

Less durable than other sandals

Design is uninspired

Chaco ZX/2

The Chaco ZX/2 remains one of Chaco’s best-selling women’s hiking sandals. It’s easy to see why it is a very durable sandal that combines style and performance. It is also a very versatile sandal that is equally at home on the trail or in a restaurant.

The Chaco ZX/2 has a high arch and a firm sole, which provides plenty of stability. The upper is made from a double-strapped polyester jacquard webbing. Although this upper looks fantastic, it could have more adjustability. That being said, the toe loop and heel enclosure are good enough for most situations.

The sandal’s LUVSEAT PU midsole provides excellent shock absorption, which can help to prevent fatigue on long walks. The outsole is made from the “ChacoGrip” rubber compound and features a 3 mm tread depth. The entire sandal is coated with an antimicrobial coating to reduce unpleasant odors

Keen Women's Uneek-w Sandal

The Keen Women's Uneek-w Sandal is one of the more interesting women’s sandals currently available. Its leather and textile upper is half way between a shoe upper and a sandal upper. This upper provides plenty of protection for your feet and will keep your feet firmly attached to the sandal.

Unfortunately, other aspects of the Uneek-w are less exciting. The quality of the insole and outsole make it a fairly mediocre choice for trail hiking. It doesn’t provide the same level of stability as other sandals and is less comfortable on long hikes. That being said, it is still a great choice for short walks in urban environments.

Pros:

A unique look

Affordable

Cons:

Does not have more adjustability

Stability suffers on the trail

KEEN Women's Whisper Sandal

This is another fantastic product from Keen that is similar to their Newport H2 Sandal. However, the Whisper is a slightly lighter sandal than the Newport H2, with a thinner midsole, compact outsole, and smaller toe bumper. Despite being more compact, it is still quite a rugged sandal that works well in any environment.

The KEEN Women's Whisper Sandal has a durable polyester upper, which dries quickly after being exposed to moisture. It uses the same bungee lacing system and elastic cording as the Newport H2, which is easy to adjust and grips the foot well.

The hydrophobic insole also dries quickly, which is handy if you often hike in wet environments. While the midsole isn’t as thick as the Newport, it still provides plenty of shock absorption. The outsole is 100% rubber and provides excellent traction on the trail.

Overall, this is an excellent product and a great choice if you are looking for a lighter version of the NewportH2.

Xero Shoes Z-Trail - Women's Lightweight Hiking and Running Sandal

If you are looking for an extremely lightweight women’s hiking sandal, take a closer look at the Xero Shoes Z-Trail Hiking Sandals. These sandals are about the same weight as the Luna Sandals Leadville Pacer (also reviewed here), making them easy to run in and are comfortable on long walks.

Z-Trail sandals are designed to provide a barefoot feel with the protection of a durable rubber sole. Only 10mm thick, these sandals are one of the thinnest sandals on the market. However, the sole is thick enough to protect you against sharp rocks and branches when hiking. The lightweight nature of these sandals makes them useful for many different activities including running, CrossFit, yoga, and beach combing.

Z-Trail sandals are water resistant, which makes them a great choice for going to the beach, boating, rowing, and other water activities. The polyester upper is fast drying and it has an easy-to-use closure system that is surprisingly adjustable.

Northside Women’s Burke II Sport Athletic Sandal

The Northside Women’s Burke II Sports Sandal is a surprisingly affordable hiking sandal with a focus on durability, foot protection, and comfort. It provides excellent value for money when compared to many other rugged women’s hiking sandals currently on the market.

It is a fully imported sandal that has a tough upper made from faux leather and textiles. These upper covers most of the foot and provides excellent protection for your feet. The water-resistant EVA insole is comfortable and does a good job of wicking away sweat from the feet.

This sandal has a synthetic midsole offering a good amount of shock absorption which further improves its comfort levels. The toe guard does a good job at protecting the toes, while the padded heel strap offers some protection for the heel. The synthetic outsole has a good tread design but offers less traction than a natural rubber sole. A great choice if you are looking for a robust hiking sandal that provides excellent value-for-money.

Skechers Women's Reggae-Happy Rainbow Sandal

Skechers have built a strong reputation for making high-quality women’s sandals. Their Reggae-Happy Rainbow Sandal is a decent product, with a couple of minor flaws (which I’ll mention shortly).

First, let’s talk about the positive attributes. The upper’s enclosure is made from a combination of synthetic textiles with a plastic buckle. This is a really durable combination that is water-resistant. The insole is contoured and has a slightly elevated upper to spread weight evenly across the feet. The midsole is flexible and does a great job at absorbing shocks, while the synthetic rubber outsole has decent traction.

The main issue is that the sandal lacks adjustability, which can result in the upper rubbing against the foot on occasions. The synthetic outsole also has less traction than natural rubber and the sizing of the sandal is on the large side.

Pros:

Affordable

Contoured insole is comfortable

Cons:

Not as durable as other sandals

Poor adjustability

Sizing is not accurate (they are bigger than sizing suggests)

The Granola Fisherman Sandal is a popular pair of walking sandals that is both stylish and comfortable. They are made from 100% faux leather with a faux cork sole. It is a very attractive design that looks fantastic with many fashion choices.

The insole of this sandal is quite flat, which makes it a great choice for women who have flat feet. The faux cork insole is covered with synthetic textile that feels good against the foot and helps to secure the foot against the sandal surface. While not the best sandal for long-distance hiking, the Granola Fisherman Sandal is ideal for short hikes and is perfect for spending time at the beach.

Pros:
