The Monterra Mid pairs the cushioned, flexible feel of a running shoe with the ankle support, grip, and weather protection of a mid-height hiking boot. No break-in period. No hot spots. Are the Monterras really waterproof?
Yup! The Monterras are built with a waterproof membrane that keeps your feet dry through puddles, streams, snow and rainy hikes, while still staying breathable so your feet don’t overheat.
How heavy are these boots?
A women’s size 7 boot weighs just 11.7 oz (334 g), which means you get trail-ready durability without the clunky, heavy feel of traditional hiking boots.
Do they have good traction?
The Grip360 outsole uses 4mm multi-directional lugs designed to give you confident grip on mud, rocks, gravel, and dry trails alike.
Are these zero drop?
No! The Monterras are built with a biomechanically neutral 8mm heel-to-toe drop. While zero-drop footwear has become trendy (a little too trendy in our opinion) clinical studies show concerns. In one randomized trial of 99 runners, the group in neutral shoes reported the fewest injuries and the minimalist shoes the most. The researchers concluded:
"Running in minimalist footwear appears to increase the likelihood of experiencing an injury, with full minimalist designs specifically increasing pain at the shin and calf. Clinicians should exercise caution when recommending minimalist footwear to runners otherwise new to this footwear category"
(Taunton et al., British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2012).
